Service Auction

As I've mentioned a few times before, at my church I'm in charge of events for the ladies. My commitee and I plan 4 big events a year and then small ones in between. Last night was our big summer event- a service auction.
There were a lot of little details and organization that went into it, but I'm happy to say it was a success. Everyone had a great time! Yeah!! It was a carnival-ish theme. Red, white & aqua blue. I made banners for the sides of the room- 13 yards each side!! It was a big project but I think it was totally worth it.
In case some of you haven't heard of a service auction, the way it works is: you have people sign up before hand for services they are willing to auction; everything from a haircut (from a hairstylist) to walking your dog, photography session or piano lessons. We had all kinds of services to auction off. When people got there, there were surveys on their chairs to fill out. They got points for things like making their bed, saying "I love you" to someone that day, taking a shower before noon, etc, etc. They totaled up their points and then turned them in and we gave them "Bishop Bucks." I asked a funny guy from church to be our auctioneer- he was GREAT! He started each service off for bidding at 5 bucks. We had over 60 items to be auctioned off.
I forgot to take pictures before everyone came so I have some random ones, but hopefully you get the idea (plus really bad lighting= crummy pictures):

This is one of the things I auctioned off-
a purse that I used the basics of Made by Rae's buttercup bag pattern: Now onto my next projects.........

That's a great idea. I might have to share this post with my R.S. ladies.

And that purse is adorable!

As always, Mique: a TOTAL smash! Not to mention everyone now wants to make it tradition! I was pretty bummed that I ran out of dough towards the end before I saw & fell in love with your purse & embroidery! You are the BEST! Now, go take a nap!
