Spring is in the air and most of us get that “spring cleaning” bug. For me, that includes noticing all the nasty spots in the carpet – am I right? Â Honestly, we only have a little bit of carpet in our home and some rugs, but they still need spot cleaning. I don’t like using any chemical cleaners, so I’ve come up with alternate ways for how to spot clean carpet naturally.
- Put a couple of drops of lemon essential oil in with some baking soda and mix together. Sprinkle on the spot, then add some vinegar – you’ll see it foam and doing it’s work. Then, cover with a terry towel for a little while – I usually wait 30 minutes or so – and then blot with the towel and you can vacuum up the excess baking soda.
- Another way to try is mixing one part castille soap with two part hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Then, pour it on to the stained area. Please a wet towel over the spot and wait a bit again, then scrub and let dry.
- The last way to try is to take 1/4 cup borax, a 1/4 cup of salt, and a 1/4 cup of vinegar. This will make into a paste that you can rub onto the stand. This time let it sit for several hours. Vacuum up the dried paste, scrub with a wet rag, and then let dry again. Go back and vacuum once more over the spot.
My favorite way to spot clean my carpets is the first way, but everyone finds a way that works best for them. Use the natural ingredients that you have in your home to easily make these stains disappear for good!

Does the lemon essential oil in the first method leave a greasy spot on the carpet?
