Today is the day! The first post for Funner in the Summer. I’m excited to welcome the talented Angelina from JoJo & Eloise. Without further ado….
Summer time is probably one of the BEST times of the year. It is full of fun, laughter, adventure and staying up late to enjoy those warm Summer Nights. One of my favorite things about Summer, is that it tends to be full of Crafting and Creativity, whether it’s trying to come up with fun activities to keep the kids busy, hosting a day camp or coming up with projects for all those wonderful family outings. Summer time can also bring lots of busyness, which translates to, NOT having a whole lot of time to spare. So I like to come up with projects that are Fast, Easy, Fun and Simple.
With all of that said, I have the perfect Summer Project I want to share with you today. This Felt Butterfly Purse is Super Cute, Fun and Easy to make. It really is the perfect Summer Project to enjoy with your little one’s, friends and family.
The Supplies Needed are very basic, Felt, Scissors, Paper to draw out pattern and Sewing Machine. If you don’t have a sewing machine available or want to simplify this Felt Butterfly Purse even more you can always hand sew or hot glue this project together. It really is that SIMPLE!!
Draw and Cut out a simple pattern of a butterfly, using different colors of felt to make a variety of butterflies for your purse.
Draw a basic purse shape, ours measured 11″ across the top edge, 17″ tall from TOP middle of bag to BOTTOM middle of bag, Straps 2.5″-3″ wide and 14.5″ long.
Felt is a great fabric to work with, especially when it comes to working with kids, the edges don’t fray and the felt is very easy to handle. Putting the Purse together is quite simple. First taking a variety of colors from your cut out butterflies, CREASE the center by folding in half and rubbing firmly down the center or press with a warm iron. Taking one of your Felt pieces for the purse, arrange your butterflies and stitch down the center or hot glue in place. When that is complete take the backside of your Felt Purse and place on top of your front piece, RIGHT sides together. Stitch along the edge of the bag, Leaving the TOP open! When finished turn purse RIGHT sides out ( IF HOT GLUING in place of sewing, it would be best to glue WRONG sides together instead of RIGHT sides together.)
For the straps: Pin each strap end to the inside of your purse at the seams of your Butterfly Felt Purse. Stitch or Hot Glue in place.
Your Butterfly Felt Purse is now complete and ready to fill with all your Summer Time Goodies, I guess the only really Hard thing about this project is, which Color make!!! I would suggest ONE of each color since they are so Cut, Fun and easy to make.
