I’m happy to have Becky from Organizing Made Fun here to share some awesome tips to help get organized. Becky posts at Organizing Made Fun (yes it can be done). She is an amazing hostess and entertainer. I am in awe of everything she does and grateful that she is here to talk about how to get organized when company is coming over. It’s something I seriously need help with. Here’s what Becky has to say:
With the holiday season approaching, it’s something that is bound to happen in many of our homes – guests! Whether you have overnight guests or just guests for dinner, it’s important to get organized for these guests coming over. Here are five tips for getting ready for them.
1. Give them their own space
For overnight guests, especially, be sure to give them a space that they can call their own. If you don’t have a guest room, give them either your bedroom or spruce up one of you kid’s bedroom to accommodate them, like THIS. If you have dinner guests, always be sure to let them know where the restroom is and where they can find things that might be important. A short home tour is always nice so they can see your home. Be sure to never apologize for your home – you only take the focus off them and onto yourself. It’s uncomfortable to them when you do that and most likely they don’t notice it as much as you might think.
2. Food
It’s always so nice to have food on hand that your guests like or find out if they have food allergies. Ask them ahead of time if they dislike certain types of food or are allergic and what is their favorites for breakfast or lunch. Then, stock up on a few items they would like. Go the extra mile and put a few small protein bars or granola bars in a basket in their room with some water bottles. This is the perfect touch!
3. Routine
Stick to your cleaning routine. Just declutter, don’t go crazy with cleaning right before you have a bunch of people over. Make things presentable and you’ll be good. Have a simple, daily routine, like THIS so that when people come over for dinner or for several days, that you aren’t overwhelmed trying to clean.
4. Keep it Simple
If you are just having guests over for dinner, keep the food simple. If you are having overnight guests, still keep things simple for breakfast – cereal, pre-made pancakes, baked bacon and so forth. You are having them over to enjoy them and if you get too caught up in the food, sometimes you can stress out and you want to be as relaxed as you can to enjoy them!
5. Plan Ahead
If you know more than a few days before that someone is coming over, plan your calendar so that you get all these things done, get the groceries shopped for, and set up the bedroom. When you go over your schedule, look ahead to see how you can get your errands run and maximize your time so you aren’t stressed out.
You can easily be organized this holiday season without running yourself ragged. Do you have other tips that you do to keep yourself ready for company?
