Hi there! It’s Laura from Make Life Lovely, and I’m thrilled to be here to share a pretty paper medallion Christmas decoration that you can make yourself with just a few simple supplies! December is my absolute favorite time of the year, and I love making handmade ornaments and decorations for my home. That little homemade touch makes such a difference!
These paper medallion Christmas decorations are made from pages cut out of an old book or a Dollar Store book. When they are rolled, glued, and combined with a few more supplies, they become elegant and festive decorations that can be hung on a Christmas tree or anywhere else in the house.
Paper Medallion Christmas Decorations
Supplies:
- An old book (or Dollar Store book)
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Green or red crepe paper
- White faux fur (or any color of felt, paper, or material)
- Silver jingle bell
- Ribbon or felt (to hang the decoration)
Step 1. Carefully rip out some pages from your book, being careful not to tear the paper. Cut out small squares from the text portion of the pages, cutting a few pages at a time. You can cut the squares any size that you want- smaller squares make smaller decorations, larger squares make larger decorations. Mine squares were about 2-2 1/2 ” wide.
Step 2. With one pointed edge on the bottom, roll a book paper square so that it looks like the photo above, similar to an ice cream cone. Add a small amount of hot glue, wait for a few seconds (for the glue to cool slightly), and carefully press both sides together to adhere the paper. Repeat for each square.
Step 3. Cut a circle out of the cover of the book (if it’s hardbound, you can use cardboard instead). Apply hot glue to a small section of the circle, and attach a few rolled book pages at a time, with the pointy ends in the middle of the circle.
Repeat until the whole cardboard is full, and you have a circle medallion shape.
Step 4. Cut a smaller circle out the book cover, and place a small amount of hot glue on part of the circle. Press the end of the crepe paper onto the hot glue, and ruffle and fold the crepe paper all the way around the circle, adding hot glue as necessary.
Once a full circle is made, cut off and glue then end of the crepe paper. Hot glue the crepe paper circle to the middle of the medallion.
Step 5. Cut a smaller circle out of the white faux fur, and glue it to the middle of the crepe paper center. Hot glue a silver jingle bell to the center of the fur. Hot glue a piece of ribbon looped onto the back for easy hanging on a Christmas tree. You can also loop a thin strip of felt to hang the ornament, like I did.
Now that wasn’t too hard, was it? The best part about this craft, besides how pretty is it, is that it cost me nothing to make since I already had everything that I needed to make it! Even if you needed a few supplies, you could make a LOT of these Christmas decorations very inexpensively.
You can also customize them to your favorite colors or to the rest of your Christmas decorations. You could even add glitter to the ends of the paper for some sparkly fun. Be creative!
