Handmade Gifts Men Want

One year my extended family decided to enact an “all handmade” Christmas gift rule.  Love the concept, but the reality of it was very difficult.   Not so much for the kids or the women, but the men.  So hard to come up with useful, DIY presents that guys won’t roll their eyes at (apparently they have enough paper neckties).   Thank goodness for amazing bloggers with creative ideas they are willing to share.   If you want to add a little something special to your gift giving this year, handmade is a sure way to do it!  Even for the man in your life!

1. Manly apron pattern from the Purl Bee. I made my husband in a fabric similar to the one pictured and he wears it almost on a daily basis. Great for the man who is willing to help out in the kitchen or loves to grill!

 

2. Flavored salts by Minimally Invasive  These would be great for burgers, fries, and just about anything on the grill. A unique and flavorful stocking stuffer for him.

3. Floppy Disk Notebook from Instructables.  I love a good upcycling project. Have a bunch of floppy disks hanging around from back in the day? Turn them into great stocking stuffing notebooks! Perfect for the computer savvy man.

4. Bow Ties from Sew Like My Mom Last year I whipped up several of these for my husband. They were super easy to make! A spot on gift for the guy who likes to get dressed up.

 

5. Lego Cuff Links from Dream a Little Bigger Tired of stepping on Legos (ouch!), make them into cool cuff links instead. You probably have almost everything you need for this project in your home already! Pair them with the bow ties above and you’ll have the perfect gift!

 

6. DIY Aftershave Lotion from PopSugar. Made with all natural ingredients (and scented to preference), this handmade gift is one on my list of to-dos this year!

 

7. Homemade Pork Rub Recipe and Printable from CincyShopper. The BBQ gifts might be a little overdone, but I couldn’t put together a man’s gift guide without including just one. Any man would be thrilled to get this pork rub (also includes free printables!).

8. Paperback Wallet from ReFabulous. Every wallet my husband has owned since we have been married has been made by me. I’ve made them out of ties and sleeve cuffs, but never paperback books! Ingenious! Perfect for the bookworm in your life.

9. Rosemary and Mint Shaving Cream from Food For My Family. Most guys shave, so you can’t go wrong with a little homemade shaving cream. This one contains no soap and it’s great for sensitive skin! P.S. Check out the comments where she gives tips for making a similar cream for shaving your legs!!

10. Lego Key Organizer designed by Felix Grauer (instructions for making your own: Man Made) I love the ingenuity of this gift. Would be great for your man’s office or for home!

11. DIY Magnetic Wristband by My Altered State I bought my husband a similar wristband, but this one is so much cooler looking! If you have a husband/brother/dad/boyfriend/etc that is a handyman, this is for him!

12. Handmade Men’s Wallet from Alisa Jacobs. This is the tutorial that I used most recently to create a wallet for my husband. The best part is that you can use any sort of fabric. I used a wide shirt cuff and left the buttons on it. He gets compliments on it all the time. A great basic pattern.
