Before the kids get out of school I try to set a flexible schedule with activities and good ol’ summer fun! You may have seen some posts from years past: Summer {home} school, kids laminated to do’s. Did you download my reading chart last week?
Each year I ask the kids what they would like to learn about on their summer break. We’ve done: circus, animals, artists, our country, and everything in between. I then plan activities, books, and worksheets around that theme.
Last year I made a simple printable and laminated it, added magnets on the back and stuck in on the fridge. It has stayed on the fridge ever since!

Based on what we discuss, each week I print
out age appropriate worksheets for my 3 kids:
A few of my favorite worksheet sites with free printables:
- ABC Teach
- Kids Zone
- School Express
- TLS Books
We then put all the worksheets into this little sorter:
But…It’s not all worksheets all the time. We have fun doing art, cooking and baking and going on outings around the theme too.
Do you keep to a schedule over the summer? What are some ways you keep your kids busy and having fun?
Hello Mique,
Great Ideas! I always think that it is good to keep the little ones busy during the summertime because they get bored so easy. Thanks for the wonderful tips.
Smiles, Paula
