Make your house smell good with a few simple ingredients for this Citrus Stovetop Potpourri.
Have you ever walked into your house and thought – what is that smell!? That’s happened more than a few times over the years in our home. A few years ago I found some stovetop potpourri recipes and love using them to make my home smell good. Simply combine a few easy ingredients and voila – the gross smell is gone and the amazing smell takes over!
How to make house smell good
It really is as easy as 1-2-3:
- Gather ingredients.
- Add ingredients to pot on stove over low heat.
- Let simmer and add water as needed.
Stovetop Potpourri Ingredients
For this citrus blend you will need:
- Grapefruit
- Lemon
- Fresh Rosemary
- Vanilla
- Water
Even cutting up the fruits, my house started to smell better. And you know the trick about putting up lemon rinds down the sink right?
TIP: Use a small portion of leftover citrus rinds to clean your garbage disposal. Add them to your sink, let water run and turn on the disposal. This helps clean the blades and smells good. Don’t use all of the rind from the lemon and grapefruit because it can get stuck in the drain system.
Another option for simmering scents in your house is to use a crockpot or slow cooker. I have a smaller size crockpot and it’s perfect for this type of potpourri. Just like with the stovetop version, you’ll need to fill with more water as it gets low.
Best Home Scents
I’m a sucker for good smells (and have a candle collection to prove it!). Here are some of the other potpourris I have made and loved in the past:
