This is the story about a Halloween Candy Button making fail. Oops. But I’m here to tell you that you can make candy buttons. It’s more of a do what I say, not what I do kind of post. And there’s a printable involved too, so that’s a bonus, right?
I rounded up my kids to get cooking in the kitchen. We made this simple recipe for candy buttons. Easy peasy. The only problem is that they ended up looking more like orange chocolate chips than candy buttons. Darn it.
I had the kids pipe some of the buttons and they did their best. And that’s all I’ll say about that.
I still think the printable turned out cute though. Even if it should say “You’re cute as a chocolate chip.” It’s not my first time using that phrase. Check out my- Cute as a button Valentine, Cute as a button teacher, Cute as a button holidays.
I used Wilton pretzel stick bags to put the candy buttons in and then attached the printable by stapling it on. Kids could write a little note on the back to each of their friends. A fun candy idea without it being candy bars. This is just straight up sugar. Just what every kid needs more of, right? (just kidding!) I created a button printable template and placed it underneath parchment paper. Once piped, I let them dry, cut strips into the right size (approx 2″ wide and 9″ long) and then gently guided them into their bags. Even with gentle guidance some buttons shifted around.
