Swedish Meatballs
Chances are, if you’ve shopped the winding maze store for home decor, you’ve had Ikea Swedish Meatballs. Am I right? That’s the first time I had these kind of meatballs. Up to that point I’d only had Italian meatballs. This Swedish Meatball recipe is a creamier version with a thicker sauce. You can serve it over egg noodles or with potatoes.
What’s the difference between Italian Meatballs and Swedish Meatballs?
Typically the biggest difference between your grandma’s Italian meatballs and a Swedish version can be found in the meat. Most meatballs have some ground beef, some ground pork and some ground veal. For the sake of this recipe, it doesn’t matter all that much because it’s made with only ground beef.
You can also find differences in size – the Swedish version or generally smaller than the Italian version. And finally, the flavors used – normally the Italian kind have a tomato based sauce while the Swedish version are more of a roux based sauce (like this one).
