What is a Cricut machine? What does it do? Let’s tackle the basics and the more in depth questions to help figure out what’s best for you.
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.
What is a Cricut Machine?
Simply put, a Cricut is a cutting machine. They are most known for cutting vinyl but can also be used for fabric cutting as well. It can print too. Consider this cutting machine the jack of all trades. Need to label something? Cut out vinyl and adhere it to a container. Want to make cute decorations for a birthday party? Cricut can do that too. I was able to make bandanas for my son’s Amazing Race 13th Birthday Party! See more ideas below.
Cricut Supplies
There are so many cool accessories and supplies that you use. It’s been fun to experiment and create with some of them. These are the supplies I use at least weekly, sometimes daily:
- Explore Air 2 or Maker
- Vinyl
- Mat
- Transfer paper
- Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Easy Press (all different sizes – this is a must with Heat Transfer Vinyl projects!)
- Tools
Not sure which cutting machine is right for you? They are all amazing but take a look Cricut Maker vs. Cricut Explore Air 2 comparison.
What can I make with a Cricut?
When I say the possibilities are endless, I really mean they are to infinity. There have been many times that I wanted to create something and wasn’t sure I could do it, only to pull out my Cricut and get busy. For me, I love the design aspect of any project. Using Design Space makes it easy to see my projects come to life.
I started labeling things last year and now I want to label everything I can get my hands on. When puns are involved? Even better! This is my gift wrapping container so that I can find scissors, tape, ribbon, when I need it! It’s perfect for the holidays.
Here are specific ideas:
- Custom cards for all types of occasions
- Create things for parties
- Home decor
- Label everything <— my personal favorite if you couldn’t tell!
- Make monograms for anything in your life
- Banners for parties or just for fun!
- Make your own pillows
- Personalize gifts
For our football banquet last year, I made the table decorations using my Cricut Explore Air.
Here are some of the projects I’ve created with my Cricut Machine:

Hello
I have a Cricut still new in its box but from years ago…
Are those Cricuts of any use now?
Is it worth taking out of the box or is it completely useless and outdated??
Thank you,
Pamela
Hi Pamela – Yes! You can still use an old Cricut. What kind do you have?
Great article for my daughter Emily. Thanks
Awesome! I hope it helps her. Thank you!
